Over 4k vehicle owners issued notices for not having fitness certificates

Agra: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued notices to over 4600 four-wheeler owners for not having fitness certificates of their vehicles. Till last month, RTO issued notices to 67,000 people whose vehicles were 15 years old or more. Fitness certificates are issued on the basis of a vehicle’s age, amount of pollutants emitted by it and its condition, in order to ensure it doesn’t cause pollution or accidents.RTO (administration) DK Singh said, “So far, notices have been issued to owners of 4675 diesel-operated eight-seater vehicles for not having fitness certificates. Apart from four-wheelers, notices were issued to owners of scooters, bikes and three wheelers. Vehicles that are more than 15 years old will not be issued a fitness certificate and hence, has to be taken off the road..
