Uttar Pradesh to regularize civic contractual workers

AGRA: Ahead of the Lok Sabha election, the state government is working on a plan to regularise the appointment of contractual workers and daily-wage workers in municipal corporations, Jal Sansthan and other urban local bodies. However, those orders were never implemented.In March 2017, the BJP government led by chief minister Yogi Adityanath took over. The state ministry of urban development has sought details of all temporary employees from the civic bodies.A senior officer of the urban development department, who did not want to be named, said, “In the first phase, workers appointed before December 31, 2001 will be regularised. Urban local bodies of all districts in UP have been asked to provide the details in time.”The previous Samajwadi Party government, led by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, had issued an order regarding regularization of contractual workers on February 24, 2016.
