FSDA, Chhatta police recover 500 cans of adulterated oil

Agra: In a pre-Holi raid, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) and Chhatta police recovered 535 cans of adulterated refined oil from Shankar ki bazaariya area in a joint operation. The sub-standard oil had been prepared to be sold in containers of a popular soybean refined oil brand.”“An FIR for copyright violation has been lodged by Fortune Oil Company. The stock had been stored in cans of a well-known oil brand to be sold in the market.The team however failed to arrest any person in the operation, which took place on Friday late night. According to FSDA, each oil can has a capacity of 15 litre and the value of the all the cans together is Rs 5 lakh.Speaking to TOI, Ramashish Maurya, chief food safety officer of Agra said, “After a complaint about adulterated refined oil from local retailers, a raid was conducted in Chhatta police jurisdiction and 8,025 litre of foul oil was recovered. Meanwhile, we have sent the oil samples for testing, while the police team is searching for the men behind the illegal business,” he said.On March 13, the FSDA and Makhanpur police team of Firozabad district had recovered Rs 5 lakh worth of refined oil and other items, including 148 empty oil cans and 520 stickers of a company on whose name the adulterated oil was being sold in the market..
