Hitting peak in Crime, UP seems to ignite criminals at a higher rate.

The Uttar Pradesh Police and the special task force (STF) on Monday arrested seven people after they conducted raids at few locations in Agra in connection with an illegal sex-determination racket.

Revealing details about the case, SSP Agra Bablu Kumar said six people were arrested by the STF in the Raipura Ahir area of Achhnera, while a nurse was arrested in the Trans Yamuna colony for running a sex-determination racket using portable ultrasound machines at home.

All the accused were sent to jail, while the masterminds - Dr Rajiv Kumar, Pankaj Kumar, and Dheeraj are still absconding.

The gang was earning over Rs 2 lakh a month through an illegal sex-determination racket.

Police arrested six people in Achhnera and recovered three more portable ultrasound machines, two cars, and other material from their possession.

In the Trans Yamuna area, police nabbed a nurse Sarita at Rajiv Kumar`s house who also runs Priya Hospital in the area.

"They dealt through agents and then took the ultrasound machine to the pregnant woman`s house for illegal sex determination.

The ultrasound, which should normally cost around Rs 1,200, was charged at Rs 10,000.

On average, they were doing about 100 sex determinations every month," police said.
