Ahmedabad | Thursday | 14th June, 2018

Summary:

A division bench of Gujarat High Court on Wednesday enhanced the jail term of a person accused under POCSO, to 10 years in prison. The matter came to court after state government challenged a lower court order in which the accused, a 19 year old, was granted seven years of imprisonment. The court also observed that teens these days under the influence of media and television often end up breaking laws. The counsel for the girl had argued that she could not have run on her own since she was a minor. The court while hearing the case also emphasised the need for state government as well as the education department to create awareness about various sections of POCSO among teenagers and general public..
