Sabarmati Ghat to be named after Atal

GANDHINAGAR: After attending the ritual to immerse the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the Sabarmati river on Wednesday, Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani announced that a ghat on the river will be named ‘Atal Ghat’.The CM said that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will develop the ‘Atal Ghat’ where memories of Vajpayee will be enshrined for the common public. Jitu Vaghani, the state BJP president, had brought the ashes from Delhi where a solemn event had been held on Wednesday. Those part of the yatra included representatives of various religious groups. A Vajpayee fan, Kalubhai Raval who is a senior citizen, began his all-India cycle tour in Vajpayee’s memory on Wednesday.The Gujarat BJP has organized similar yatras to Narmada and Mahi rivers (in Central Gujarat), Tapi river (South Gujarat), Saraswati river (Siddhpur, North Gujarat), and at Triveni Sangam, Somnath.
