Cops bust gang targeting auto passengers

AHMEDABAD: In two operations, the city crime branch nabbed five persons for stealing valuables from autorickshaw passengers. Four of those held are Abdul Qadar Shaikh, Nasir Ghanchi , Mohammed Yunus Shaikh, and Mohammed Shakil. “The gang used to steal valuables from bags of passengers,” said a senior crime branch official. The fifth person, Asif Pathan, is a murder accused who jumped parole.According to crime branch sources, they have recovered a CNG auto, Rs 2 lakh cash, and four cellphones from the kingpin of the gang, Abdul Qadar. “Not long ago, they had stolen gold jewellery from the bag of a woman who took their autorickshaw from Kalupur to Chiloda.” In-charge assistant commissioner of police Shankar Chaudhary said that in another operation, they nabbed Asif Pathan who had left jail on parole on May 28 for six days, but never returned..
