Petition in Gujarat High Court seeks extension in date of filing I-T returns

A petition in the Gujarat High Court has sought that the last date for filing the Income-Tax returns be extended by two months. The petition had also stated that the department kept on changing forms meant for the filing of returns on a regular basis leading to difficulty in filing the returns. The petition filed by the federation of tax consultants has sought that the last date for filing of returns is extended from the present September 30 to November 30. Meanwhile, the CBDT in an order issued on Monday said it has extended the due date for filing of Income-Tax returns to October 15. The agency however clarified that the date for an assessee, who is liable to pay interest for defaulting on furnishing returns has not been extended..
