Vadodara: 5k railway stations to be Wi-Fi enabled

VADODARA: Nearly 5 ,000 railway stations across the length and breadth of the country will be Wi-Fi enabled in the next couple of months, Ashwani Lohani , chairman of the Railway Board has said.“We have already implemented the Wi-Fi project at 711 railway stations. “In 2017-18, we electrified 4,000 km route and in 2018-19, our target is to electrify 6,000 km route,” he said.Lohani said the Railway Board is doing 4,300 km of rail renewal this year and a lot of repair has happened in the last four months. The railways has plans to have bio-toilets in all trains by December 2018. Now, the proposal is to cover over 5,000 more stations, ” Lohani said addressing reporters through video conferencing at an interactive workshop organized at the National Academy of Indian Railways (NAIR), Vadodara, recently.Lohani said that the project will be implemented with the support of corporates under their CSR projects. Apart from station redevelopment, cleanliness is another area of focus.The 164-year-old rail-road network, world’s fourth-longest, is trying to empower those at the field level and is ready to hold industry-specific dialogues with the private sector, he said.“We have done away with age old petty practices like handing over bouquets and are cracking down on corruption..
