Gujarat: Essel Infra to build desalination plant, sell water to govt

Essel Infraprojects Ltd on Saturday signed a concession agreement with Gujarat Water Infrastructure Ltd (GWIL), a state government company, to build and operate a Rs 1,000-crore desalination plant at Jodiya in Jamnagar district. With the entire project cost being borne by the private company, the Gujarat government will pay Essel Infraprojects for the treated water supplied from the proposed plant. Essel Infraprojects will source the technology for converting sea water to drinking water from a Spanish firm, Abengoa. “Once the plant is ready, we will be providing potable drinking water at a spot decided by the state government.
