Ahmedabad’s tale of two cities related by study

Ahmedabad | Sunday | 9th December, 2018

Summary:

Citizens in western parts commute an average of 6.1km daily compared to 3.9km clocked by easterners. AHMEDABAD: The city that flourished on the eastern banks of Sabarmati River 600 years ago, has now almost the same area in the western part now. While there are 206 jobs per hectare in west, the figure is 121 for the east. The figures are 11% and 44% for Jaipur and 6% and 34% for Chennai. But the difference, as pointed out by a CEPT study, between the two spheres is so glaring that it might seem that it could well be twin cities. For the start, median income in the western city parts is double at Rs 60,000 per family compared to their eastern counterparts (Rs 30,000)..
