Summary:

The trustees cancelled permission to give the hall for the event on Sunday, triggering a major controversy.In-charge principal Hemant Shah said he resigned in protest as he strongly feels the trustees should not have succumbed to pressure. "I perceived trustees denying us permission for the hall for annual function as an attack on individual freedom, our freedom to teach and our right to express. We felt that as an institution, we failed to stand by our students. I resigned immediately." The trustees, which included president and 2018 Pritzker prize winner B V Doshi and vice-president Padma Shri Kumarpal Desai, backed off at the last minute after ABVP leaders from Gujarat University called up the trustees and threatened to disrupt the function if Mevani stepped on the campus..
