Out of jam: SP Ring Road to be six-laned

AHMEDABAD: On Sardar Patel Ring Road , traffic jams at Science City Circle, Vaishnodevi Crossroads and Zundal Circle are all too common.The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) has not only made provisions for six new flyovers — at Science City and Zundal Circle among others — but has also approved six-laning of the full 76km of the Sardar Patel Ring Road.Auda chairman Vijay Nehra said the SP Ring Road will six-laned by Sadbhav Engineering, which also hold the right to collect toll. Nehra said that the flyover at Vaishnodevi has already been approved as a part of the Rs 850 crore project to expand the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Road.Auda has already planned two flyovers on SP Ring Road, at Dehgam (costing of Rs 60 crore) and an underbridge at South Bopal. The underbridge will cost Rs 66 crore. Another flyover, at Shantipura Crossroads, is being planned and will cost Rs 94 crore.A pedestrian over-bridge across Sardar Patel Ring Road is also being planned at the Vastral junction metro station.The board approved Rs 100 crore for road resurfacing and allocated Rs 100 crore for 110km of new roads.The board also approved the construction of 2,639 houses at Amiyapura, Dehgam, Kalol, Koteshwar, Sanand and Zundal.Some 210 low-income group houses are planned in Bopal..
