Gujarat HC disposes of plea seeking amendment to Gulberg petition

The Gujarat High Court Rules had been framed in 1974 and an amendment in the law was suggested in 2009. Taking cognisance, the court of Justices J B Pardiwala and A C Rao ordered that the paper books be provided for free by the registrar and further directed an amendment to the Gujarat High Court Rules to do so. The petitioners had mentioned that they would be unable to pay the fee of Rs 1,21,000 as sought by the Gujarat High Court registrar. The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday disposed of an application filed by the victims of the Gulberg society massacre, seeking amendments to their criminal petition, which included compensation on a par with the kin of the victims of Sabarmati Express carnage in Godhra. The decision came nearly two years after the Gujarat High Court direction to pay the compensation, while delivering a judgment on October 9, 2017, on a petition appealing against the sentence given out by the trial court..
