Congress moves Gujarat High Court to debar Alpesh Thakor, Dhavalsinh Zala

Ahmedabad | Thursday | 15th August, 2019

Summary:

The Congress party has once again moved the Gujarat High Court challenging the inaction of Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi in deciding the applications seeking disqualification of former Congress MLA from Radhanpur Alpesh Thakor and Bayad MLA Dhavalsinh Zala under the provisions of the anti-defection law. Sharma requested the court to adjourn the hearing of the case till Monday, which was agreed by it. Thereafter, Thakor allegedly again incurred disqualification by voting contrary to the mandate of the Congress party during the recently held Rajya Sabha election. A separate disqualification petition was preferred by the party, but instead of adjudicating on the same, the speaker accepted the resignations tendered by both Thakor and Zala. The Bayad MLA too had voted in contravention of the party's mandate and both of them later joined the BJP..
