Gujarat: 53 reservoirs in two tribal districts to get Panam canal water

The state government on Friday announced that several villages in Mahisagar and Panchmahals will now get water in their ponds from the Panam high-level canal. The move will help fill 53 ponds of 38 villages in the two tribal districts, where the terrain makes it difficult to access canal networks. The 53 ponds will be filled using a pipeline network and by lifting water directly from the canal. An 86.5 km long eight pipelines will be used to bring water to the ponds and the water will be pumped from six different locations on the canal. The Panam high-level canal which gets water from the Panam reservoir is 30 km long and has a carrying capacity of 800 cusec water..
