The High Court told the government on the issue that a speedy decision was needed on the issue. The government has been directed to take a firm decision and submit a progress report within two weeks. The court has vowed to take a `concrete` decision from the government. The University Grants Commission has also recommended a reduction in fees.

An application was made to the High Court seeking relief of 25 per cent in college fees and installments for the remaining fees. Private colleges were introduced to levy penalty in case of non-payment of fees. The petition also sought the court to issue necessary directions to provide relief to the students and parents. The petition was heard in the High Court.
