Light to moderate showers were received in the city on Thursday, the second day of the monsoon season so far.

Eastern parts of the city got about 1.5-inch rains between 2 pm and 4 pm while certain areas like Ramol, Vatva, Bodakdev and Maninagar remained dry.

About 41 places in eastern Ahmedabad saw water-logging on the streets.

Three complaints of sunken roads and a tree collapse were received by AMC on Thursday.

The Kubernagar area saw water accumulating up to the knees.

Meanwhile, with heavy rains predicted for Thursday night, four gates of the Vasna barrage were opened.

The Standing Committee of the AMC on Thursday discussed the ongoing pre-monsoon works in the city.

Chairman Hitesh Barot said, “Heavy rains are predicted tonight and so we have opened four gates of the barrage so that there is no flooding in the low-lying areas of the city.

The engineering department is working on solving the problems with damage to roads.

Notably, in the last 24 hours, eastern zone received 56.17 mm, west had 39.89 mm, NW had 28.50 mm, SW had 44 mm, central zone had 54.25 mm, north had 89 mm and South zone received 48.85 mm of rainfall.

Average rainfall in the city stood at 51.51 mm.
