Health department imparts sex education to 2,620 youngsters at CHCs

ALLAHABAD: The district health department is imparting sex education to 2,620 adolescents aged between 10 to 18 years of age, at Community Health Centres (CHCs) in Allahabad district as part of the initiatives launched under the Rastriya Kishore Swastha Karyakram District programme manager of National Health Mission, VK Singh, said, “The training will be given to school-going and non-school going adolescents and would help them attain a level of maturity to make responsible decisions.”Singh added that the training will also help both boys and girls to understand their sexuality and protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and the subsequent risk of infertility.Health education officer (Kaurihar), Jaya Singh, said, “ Currently, we are training 275 adolescents at the Kaurihar CHC alone”.She also said that the participants would be selected by the gram sabhas, gram sabha swachhta samitis and subsequently peer educators would train them.During the training, health officials would discuss various issues pertaining to sexual health, mental health, social behaviour, physical abuse and sexual violence..
