Soon, UP cops to get orders via text messages

"While Agra, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Kanpur,Varanasi and Meerut zones have taken the lead in compiling the mobile numbers of policemen and updating the PNO system, Allahabad and Lucknow zones are still lagging behind.In Allahabad zone, only 57% of the numbers—15,590 numbers—have been added to the PNO system. In Lucknow zone, only 56% of the mobile numbers have been added.In a missive to his subordinates, UP director general of police OP Singh directed to ensure that the process of compiling mobile numbers of policemen is completed at the earliest.The SP(protocol), said, "Once the names of all policemen are added in the PNO system, they would be receiving instructions about operations and campaigns directly from the top state police officials in the state via text messages." ALLAHABAD: Seeking to better connectivity between ground-level personnel and senior policemen, UP Police has launched a ‘bulk SMS system’ which would enable it send out instant instructions via text messages.The facility is likely to bridge communication gap between non-gazetted police personnel and the higher ups.As part of the facility, the police department would feed mobile numbers of policemen from all eight zones of the state into a Personal Number (PNO) system.The eight police zones in the state are Agra, Allahabad, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut and Varanasi.Once the facility is launched, all 1,81,127 (non-gazetted) personnel of UP Police would be receiving SMSes from senior police officials directly.SP (protocol) Purnendu Singh said, "Almost 72% of the mobile numbers of policemen from across the state have already been added and the remaining numbers would be added in the PNO system soon..
