Special cameras to add more punch to Kumbh Mela surveillance

It is for the first time in Allahabad that ANPR cameras would be keeping an eye on vehicles in and around the Mela campus. When a vehicle passes through an ANPR camera, its registration number will be verified as the software would run it through the database of vehicles. Hence, policemen on duty will be able to intercept and a stop a suspicious vehicle. ALLAHABAD: The Mela police will be installing as many as 1,027 cameras which includes PTZ cameras, Autodom cameras, fixed CCTV cameras and automatic number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to keep an eye on visitors and vehicles during the Kumbh Mela Apart from latest and advanced cameras for surveillance, the police would also install as many as 40 Variable Message Display (VMD) boards for flashing alerts and for the convenience of visitors.Police conducted a trial of these advanced cameras at Reserve Police Lines on Sunday.DIG/SSP (Kumbh Mela) KP Singh, said, "There would be seven sets of entry and exit gates on the Mela ground and we are identifying spots where these cameras could be installed.".
