Petition challenges Allahabad name change

ALLAHABAD: A high court lawyer has moved a public interest litigation before the Allahabad high court , challenging the recent notification of the state government whereby the name of Allahabad was changed as Prayagraj In the PIL, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and urban development minister Suresh Khanna have been made respondents. Petitioner's counsel Vijay Srivastava other ground taken in the PIL is that a huge amount of public fund would be invested by changing the name of Allahabad district while other problems, where the fund should have been utilized, remain intact. The other respondents include chief secretary, advocate general, chairman of the Board of Revenue, chief secretary (revenue), etc.The PIL is likely to be taken up by the court shortly.In the PIL filed by a high court lawyer, Sunita Sharma, it has been contended that changing of name from Allahabad, which is known as such for hundreds of years, to Prayagraj is neither in the interest of public nor the government..
