Anti-Romeo squads on vigil, V-day a peaceful affair

Allahabad: With 14 anti-Romeo squads to check incidents of moral policing and eve-teasing, lovestruck couples got an opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day peacefully in the city on Thursday.Police said apart from the 14 anti-Romeo squads, two special teams of women police officials were deployed at seven locations including Company Bagh and two multiplexes in Civil Lines.Deputy SP (Civil Lines) Alok Mishra, said, “Apart from the anti-Romeo squads, three special police teams led by women sub-inspectors were also deployed outside the girls school and colleges to check eve-teasing.”He said that each anti-Romeo squad comprised four policemen including one woman sub-inspector and a constable.Owners of eateries and flower shops in the city claimed that sales did not pick up much as residents preferred to visit the Kumbh Mela ground.“Our cafe had made special arrangements for Valentine’s day but there weren’t many visitors,” said the owner of a city-based cafe.The owners of various flower shops also said that they had made special preparations for the day including elaborate packages for interested consumers but for the sales turned out to be tepid..
