Gorakhpur riots: Allahabad high court fixes Sept 15 as date of hearing

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad high court on Monday adjourned till September 15 the hearing of a writ petition seeking probe by an independent agency into the Gorakhpur riot case of 2007. The petition has requested the court to direct an investigation by an independent agency into the FIR registered in 2008 in Gorakhpur against Yogi and three others. Parwaz filed the FIR in the case while Asad Hayat is a witness to the decade-old incident. On Monday , the matter could not be placed before the court by the state government due to paucity of time.Hearing a writ petition filed by Parvez Parwaz and Asad Hayat, a division bench comprising Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Akhilesh Chandra Sharma passed the above order. The then member of Parliament from Gorakhpur, Aditya Nath Yogi , is one of the accused in this matter.On the previous date, the court had summoned the case diary and original records of the case, including the entire documents by which the state government had refused to grant sanction to prosecute Yogi..
