Animal activism dates back to the 1800s when the first animal protection group in the United States, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), was founded by Henry Bergh in April 1866, however neighborhood activism has always been a part of our society for those sensitive towards the pain of animals.

One such voice of the voiceless in Allahabad is Dr.

Samar Rahman.

A general surgeon by profession, this 36-year-old doctor feeds atleast a 100 dogs every day.

An avid animal lover, Samar also runs a society called the Animal Farm, which was founded in 2016.

Calling his sister Tammana Rahman, a source of inspiration, Samar told NYOOOZ Allahabad that he has been rescuing and saving animals, along with his sister, from 2010.

Citing the absence of vet surgeons in Allahabad as one of the biggest challenge in animal activism in the city, Dr.

Rahman said that even if someone picks an ailing animal from the street, there are no surgeons in Allahabad who can actually help.

Drawing the three biggest challenges in his work, Dr.
