Drug paddlers use religious book to smuggle charas

AMRITSAR: As the Chamba police in Himachal Pradesh tightens its noose around charas ( cannabis ) paddlers, the later have now come up with new ideas to smuggle the contraband even if it hurts religious sentiments of a community.Superintendent of police, Chamba Monika Bhutungru informed on Monday that police had arrested a charas smuggler who was attempting to smuggle the narcotics concealed in a religious book.Giving details, she informed that during checking of vehicles at Rajpura, police frisked luggage of passengers traveling in a bus from Beragarh to Chamba and found religious books and some ingredients used for religious rituals.She informed that the passenger who was identified as Beekham Ram, resident of Churah, had made a cavity by cutting pages of Srimad Bhagwad Puran and had concealed around 500 gram of charas in the religious book.Monika informed that police had registered a case and begun investigations..
