Summary:

AMRITSAR: The revival of Shahpur Kandi dam threatens the existence of Mahabharta-era caves and Mukteshwar temple near the dam site. Citing religious sentiments of the Hindu community, Singh said they couldn't allow caves and temple to be submerged with the construction of the dam. Both the temple and the caves have been cut out of the rocky hill. "The construction of the dam may begin in a month or two. "The construction of the dam is a welcome move but the government has to ensure construction of a protective wall to save the nearly 5,500-year-old caves at Doongh village from submerging in the reservoir water," Maha Mukteshwar Parbandhak Committee chairman Bhim Singh said on Monday..
