Punjab: Sikh bodies to hold two-day religious function at Dera Baba Nanak

DERA BABA NANAK: To initiate the year-long celebrations of the 550 birth anniversary of Sikh’s first master Guru Nanak Dev in 2019, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee ( DSGMC ) and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee ( SGPC ) has announced to jointly hold a two-day religiou function near the Zero Line along the international border at Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district.A joint delegation of DSGMC and SGPC comprising the presidents of both the committees visited the Darshan Sthal at Dera Baba Nanak on Monday and offered prayers for the fulfillment of Sikhs’ long-pending demand of a corridor between Dera Baba Nanak and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.While talking to TOI, DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK said that the function will be held on November 10 and 11.“On November 10, there will be a kavi darbar, and a laser light and sound show while on November 11, nagar kirtan’s would arrive at the Zero Line to offer prayers and pay obeisance while looking towards Gurdwara Kartarur Sahib in Pakistan”.When asked whether the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has also planned any similar religious function, he replied “We will approach them to decorate the Gurdwara with lights and hold a firecracker show on November 10”.He said the function would mark the beginning of year-long birth anniversary celebrations and a movement for the opening of the corridor.SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said the visit has given them an opportunity to have the ground zero assessment of the possible corridor..
