Summary:

Accusing Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal of allegedly using the authority of Akal Takht for their political interests, Ranjit Singh said “Take a look at the past, right from me to Gurbachan Singh , one by one, jathedars have been replaced by SGPC on the instructions of SAD leadership.” “If the SGPC once again appointed jathedar on the instructions and choice of SAD, it will certainly not be acceptable to panth and the panthic crisis will remain there,” he said.Former Akal Takht jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh, who was also suspended by SGPC, said, “As long as one political party will have the right to pick up jathedar of its choice, the panthic crisis would never be over. AMRITSAR: After the resignation of Giani Gurbachan Singh from the post of jathedar of the Akal Takht, Sikh bodies asked him to ‘divulge’ the truth behind his controversial decisions before the Panth and come clean on the issues which had been haunting him in the past.Talking to TOI on Thursday, former jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Kewal Singh said since Gurbachan Singh had offered his resignation, it was his moral duty to reveal the truth behind pardoning of controversial Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and other controversial decisions taken in the capacity of jathedar of Akal Takht.Core committee member of Panthic Talmel Sangathan Jaswinder Singh Advocate said, “Merely resigning from the post wouldn’t obliterate Gurbachan Singh of sins committed as the jathedar. If he has made up his mind to leave the post then he should put the truth before the Panth.” When asked about the appointment of new jathedar of Akal Takht, Kewal Singh said the person who was acceptable to panth should be appointed and not the one which was acceptable to SAD.On the same issue, Jaswinder suggested that Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) should constitute a committee of representatives from various Sikh bodies as well as Sikh intellectuals and seek suggestions for the new jathedar ..
