Amritsar Tragedy: 40 of those killed in accident identified, 36 bodies cremated

AMRITSAR: Forty of the 59 people killed in the train accident near here have been identified so far and the bodies of 36 of were cremated, including young children from 3 to 11 years of age. The bodies were consigned to flames at Shiv Puri crematorium.In addition, bodies of four deceased were also sent to their respective villages in Uttar Pradesh.The 36 bodies were cremated in batches at a ground near Shitla Mata Temple here in the presence of officials of the state government and family members of the deceased. According to officials, the post-mortem examination on 29 bodies has been done.Besides relatives of the victims, a large number of local residents converged at the crematorium to show support to the kin of those who lost their loved ones.Mohan Lal, a relative of Sham Lal Mahajan, a resident of Joda Phatak who had died in the incident, said there couldn’t have been any more tragic incident in life than seeing dozens of pyres of known ones burning together.Sanju Kapoor, a local resident said almost all the shopkeepers of the nearby market had converged to share the grief of relatives of deceased.The injured have been admitted to seven hospitals, the officials said..
