In 2016 there was no exchange of sweets on the occasion of Diwali, but the practice was resumed in 2017.Exchange of sweets takes place on all three major international border posts of Attari, Hussaniwala, and Sadqi in Punjab. The sweets diplomacy is also an indication of the current state of relations between the two nations. Exchange of sweets is a traditional practice carried out by BSF and Pak Rangers on various religious and national events, including Independence Day and Republic Day, to maintain harmony on the border and for coordination between two forces for better border management. The friendly gesture, however, comes to a halt when tension mounts between two countries..
