Man attacks cop after wife’s defeat

BATHINDA: Bathinda Sadar police has registered a case of attempt to murder against seven persons and 70-80 unidentified persons on the complaint of constable Gursharan Singh , who was attacked at Deon village after the counting in panchayat elections held on Sunday. He said the husband of a losing candidate for the sarpanch post, Angrej Singh alleged bias in counting and came to the polling booth along with some persons. No arrest has been made so far, said the police. The cop sustained injuries after being hit on the head with a brick.According to a complaint filed by Gursharan, who is posted at police post Vardhman, the incident happened after the counting was completed at the Government High School at Deon. They threw a brick which hit the cop in the forehead.Gursharan has been admitted in Bathinda civil hospital for treatment.The police have registered case against Angrej Singh, Jagtar Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Teja Singh, Harpal Singh , Ranjit Singh and Ramandeep Singh of Deon village, along with 70-80 other unidentified persons, under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353(assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 342 (wrongful confinement), 171C (undue influence at election), 148 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code ..
