1.3 lakh addicts in Punjab registered for treatment in less than 2 years

Of the total 1.3 lakh, 64,148 patients are registered with government clinics and 66,760 with private centres. According to official data, around 21% registered patients are not regular in treatment. There are around 130 psychiatrists, both in government hospitals and private centres, whereas there is a requirement of around 300 psychiatrists. “The government needs to be strict with private centres and ensure all norms are complied with,” said Dr Gagandeep.
