Amritsar | Tuesday | 5th February, 2019

Summary:

Aujla adopted former Amritsar MP and now Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu’s style of carrying out surprise checks, which also landed him in controversies. He has been active in Parliament and raised issues like direct international flights from Amritsar, bailout for farmers, delay in completion of Centre-sponsored projects in Amritsar, and a better fence on the Pakistan border. He justified his donation, stating that there was a constitutional provision under which every MP could give Rs 25 lakh out of MPLAD outside his constituency. Questions asked by him relate to construction of Kartarpur corridor, setting up of tourism hub in Punjab, inclusion of Amritsar in Ramayana circuit, laying of railway lines, and depletion of groundwater. AMRITSAR: Gurjit Singh Aujla was climbing through the Congress’s ranks gradually till chief minister Amarinder Singh gave him the responsibility of managing his poll campaign while contesting from Amritsar parliamentary constituency against BJP bigwig Arun Jaitley in 2014..
