Kalgidhar society to set up Punjab' largest rural solar energy project on April 2

BATHINDA: Punjab ' largest 1.2 MW rural solar energy project commissioned by any rural education institute in the state will start electricity production on April 2 at Akal University in Bathinda . This grid model project will meet 80% of the power demand of the university. Akal University in Talwandi Sabo is run by Kalgidhar society This rooftop solar power plant will be inaugurated by Jatindra Nath Swain, managing director, Solar Energy Corporation of India.Akal University vice-chancellor Gurmail Singh said that the largest grid-based educational rural solar power project of Punjab has been constructed with Rs 5.2 crore out of which Union ministry of new and renewable energy has provided subsidy of Rs1.7 crore.A total of 3,750 panels have been set up under the project in1.2 lakh square feet area spread across 14 locations..
