Indu Aurora, vice-president of a non-governmental organisation(NGO), Voice of Amritsar, said, “There is a need to streamline vehicular traffic, especially autos, which plays a major role in polluting the air quality. Politicians need to rise above vote banks. Factories and dairies should be shifted outside city limits.”The NGO had been promoting sapling plantation in several parts of the district. Many city-based educational institutions have also planted vertical gardens to reduce carbon emissions and promote greenery around various institutions..
