A farmer died and over a dozen sustained injuries after a bus ferrying them from anti agriculture bill protest in Badal Village rammed into a stationery truck on Tuesday night at Bathinda-Mansa Road.
The deceased has been identified as Mukhtiar Singh (57) of village Kishangarh in Mansa.
The injured were rushed to the Bathinda civil hospital and private hospital.
Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal, revenue minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar and Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar paid visit to the injured farmers at Bathinda hospital on Wednesday.
After the mishap the farmers blocked vehicular traffic on Bathinda-Mansa road near Bathinda ITI demanding compensation of INR10 Lac for the family of deceased farmer and INR 2Lac each for those who sustained injuries in the incident.
BKU Ekta Ugrahan had held parallel protest at former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s native village and at chief minister Amarinder Singh’s hometown in Patiala for eight day against the farm ordinances.
BKU Ekta Ugraha’s Mansa district president Ram Singh Bhainibagha stated that farmers had to hold protest against Union government; hence the government is responsible for the death of the farmer.
