Bali staged at state level drama competition

Summary:

Girish Karnad’s play Bali was recently staged at the State level Hindi drama competition held at which concluded at Tapdiya Natya Mandir in Aurangabad. Thus, by comparing and contrasting, the play questioned why such acts of violence find validation in the name of religion, tradition and culture. While looking at it through the lenses of caste and creed, it compares these relationships with the struggle between two religions. The story line examines the complexity of the man-woman relationship, within and outside marriage. This Aslam Shaikh directed play was the only from Aurangabad among the 72 plays that were staged during the contest organised by Ministry of Cultural Affairs The play excellently depicts the unfortunate fault lines emerging out of intersectionality of caste, faith and fidelity..
