Aurangabad | Tuesday | 5th June, 2018

Summary:

Despite repetitive attempts, ACS (home) Sudhir Srivastav, DGP Mathur and DGP Bihari could not be reached for comment. He had also announced that DGP Satish Mathur and additional chief secretary (home) Sudhir Shrivastav would carry out the probe into the Mitmita violence. A dditional director general of police (law & order) Bipin Bihari has been transferred within days of being tasked by the chief minister to probe the Aurangabad riots. With no clarity on who will carry out the high-level probe into last month's communal violence, it is feared that it might meet the same fate as the Mitmita probe.Bihari, who was recently promoted to the rank of director general of police (DGP), has now been appointed as managing director of police housing and welfare corporation.During the last assembly session on March 15, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis sent the then commissioner of police Yashasvi Yadav on forced leave. However, months after the announcement, the high-level committee is yet to reach Aurangabad for carrying out the probe.Sources said that following the routine procedure, a deputy commissioner of police rank officer has recorded the statements of Mitmita residents. In the recent Aurangabad riots, several videos purportedly showing police indulging in rioting or supporting the rioters surfaced, leaving the state home department as well as the DG office red-faced.Taking serious cognizance of the issue, Fadanvis on May 23 informed TOI that ADG L&O would carry out a probe into the riots that rocked the city on the night of May 11 and continued for over 12 hours. No clarification has been provided as to who will carry out the probe - Bihari or the next additional director general of police (law & order)..
