‘Smart’gear: Aurangabad likely to get good public transport system by year-end

According to the Regional Transport Office, the number of registered vehicles in Aurangabad has increased from 5,83,027 in 2010 to 10,20,021 in 2015. A total of 150 buses were expected to be procured and made operational in phases over the next two years as part of the Aurangabad Smart City project.Rathod said the terms and conditions listed in the proposal were not satisfactory and subsequently there was no response to it.Currently, the city’s public transport system is being run by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation with 25-30 buses on 11 routes.The municipal area spreads over 170 sq km and as per the 2011 census, the city has a population of 11.75 lakh..
