Cidco residents protest dumping of waste on road

Aurangabad: Around 300 N-6 Cidco residents staged a rasta roko agitation near DCP Zone II office at Central Naka to protest dumping of waste by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on the road near their locality. Following the protest the garbage was lifted.According to local residents, a point on the road between N-6 Cidco and MGM was being used for dumping for the last one month. Speaking to TOI, Kulkarni said that the spot was being used as temporary waste processing site after resistance by locals led to the closure of Chikalthana processing site.“The waste was segregated and the rag-pickers were sorting valuable waste from the dry waste. Thus, we had to resort to agitation,” he said.The clearing of the garbage was carried out under the supervision of sanitary inspector (SI) Ravikiran Kulkarni. Another agitator, Dilip Yadav, said that repeated reminders to mayor about the waste did not bear any results.“The mayor asked us not to disturb him over petty issues when we called him up..
