12 held for planning to help Mehndi flee from custody

CLEARED SKHERAurangabad: A dozen men, including six from Madhya Pradesh, were arrested from Aurangabad for allegedly planning to help gangster Imran Mehndi escape from police custody while he was being taken for the court hearing on Monday.The police have seized a country-made firearm and eight live rounds from the suspects, who were intercepted at Naregaon area of MIDC Chikalthana.Aurangabad commissioner of police Chiranjeev Prasad said, “Some days back, we had got specific intelligence about the alleged plans of the gang. Mehndi and seven members of his gang were convicted by the special MCOCA court here on Monday in connection with the Saleem Qureshi murder case.The arrested suspects have been identified as Nafees Maqsoof Khan (40), Naqib Riyaz Mohammed (55), Fareed Mansoor Khan (35), Saroof Shakoor Khan (45), Faizullah Ghani Khan, Shakir Kurban Khan and Shabbir Samad Kha (32), all from Madhya Pradesh.Their accomplice from Aurangabad have been identified as Yaser Qadar Shaikh (23), Faisal Ajaz Syed (18), Mohammed Naser Farooq (24), Habib Khaled Chaush (35) and Mohammed Shoeb Sadeq (28).DCP Nikesh Khatmode Patil said Chaush and Sadeq were released on bail some time back..
