Summary:

“Hardly a few Ganesh mandals have paid heed to our appeal for drawing power from authorised connections. Ganesh Mandals have to pay processing fee of Rs 50 and submit a deposit of Rs 1,000 for upto 1 kilovolt (kV) connection and Rs 1,000 for further usage per kV at the time of getting temporary power connection.“We usually avoid crackdown against Ganesh mandals during festive occasion. However, at the same time, we request mandals not to comprise the safety and avail temporary power connections only,” Ardad said. While issuing temporary connections, the MSEDCL ensure that the wiring and other distribution network complies all safety check and a safety report is generated accordingly. Thus, temporary connections are considered not only economically cheaper but also safest option of drawing power.Meanwhile, MSEDCL has also set up control rooms during Ganesh festival to deal with any technical issues related to power supply. The remaining have gone ahead and opted for unsafe and unlawful way of getting electricity during festive days,” he said.As makeshift arrangement, Ganesh mandals take power connection from nearby homes or shops during the festival period, which is a violation of the rules..
