Summary:

“It’s ironal that MWRRA has not plunged into action even in the face of gross violation of its standing order. We strongly feel that the water regulator has been acting under some political pressure,” said Dhanorkar. An official mail seeking MWRRA’s stand on the charges levelled against it could not be sent due to technical errors in the portal of the water regulator. “The silence on the part of the water regulator and the top- brass of GMIDC leaves room for suspicion that probably they have succumbed to political pressure.”Purandare said the desired amount of water should have been released within the stipulated time frame and in a consistent manner. “The intermittent release of water, like in the case of Nilwande dam, will only escalate transmission losses and such wastage is highly undesirable from the perspective of stakeholders from upstream and downstream areas,” he said.During May this year, MWRRA had set up a special standing committee for supervising equitable distribution of water in the Godavari Basin.
