Police file a dozen cases for bursting crackers after 10pm

Aurangabad: Aurangabad city police is among few police units to go all-out against those violating Supreme Court directives on the time limit for bursting firecrackers.On Friday night, police registered a dozen cases against those bursting firecrackers after 10 pm. This caused many to desist from bursting crackers late Saturday night.Sources in police said chief Chiranjeev Prasad refused to buy the argument that no one was found violating the SC norms. Deputy commissioner of police (zone-I) Nikesh Khatmode-Patil said action was initiated after some people were found rampantly flouting SC directives. With the cases registered in Aurangabad, the total number of cases registered during Diwali in Marathwada has reached 13.Mukundwadi police registered five offences, while police stations of Cantonment, City Chowk, Harsul, Cidco, MIDC Cidco, Satara and Jinsi registered one offence each, catching residents by surprise. The SC last month set a time slot for bursting of crackers during Diwali, between 8 pm and 10 pm.Till Friday, only Vaijapur police station in entire Marathwada had registered an offence for violation of the SC directive..
