Police chief issues directives to go all-out against property offenders

Aurangabad: A day after the houses of policemen were targeted in the Sudhakar Nagar area, the city police chief has issued directives to the force to go all-out against the property offenders.As per the directives issued, a fresh record of the suspects active in and around the city has to be compiled and intelligence about the activities of all the suspicious elements has to be collected independently by the detection branch, the respective beat hawaldars as well as the crime branch.Unidentified burglars broke into four houses, all belonging to jawans serving with the State Reserve Police Force’s (SRPF) Indian Reserve Battalion, in the Sudhakar Nagar area of the city in the wee hours of Monday, leaving the authorities completely red-faced.After the incident came to light, locals alleged that the police patrolling register has not been signed for the past six months. Also, a futile attempt was made to burgle the house of constable Atmaram Ghuge.Following the incident, senior police officers in the city were candid enough to confess that property offences are turning out to be a huge menace for the city.“Though we have been initiating preventive measures against them from time to time, this time we have asked for even more stringent preventive measures against those who are found to be involved in property offences,” Commissioner of Police, Chiranjeev Prasad, told TOI.An officer with the crime branch said that the possibility of involvement of suspects hailing from the neighbouring districts or even amateurs, who are not yet on the police record, cannot be ruled out.A constable with the modus operandi branch said that a majority of the property offences in the city have been committed in and around the areas which are in the vicinity of highways as well as railway tracks.The city police in recent times have initiated preventive action against criminals on police record, with several of them still languishing behind bars, while others have been externed from the city limits..
