Police lens on pharma stores selling cough syrup illegally

Aurangabad: In an attempt to crack the whip on the menace of illegally selling cough syrups to drug addicts, police have started gathering information about the pharmacy stores which are supplying cough syrups without prescription.As per norms, cough syrups cannot be sold without sans prescription and the pharmacy stores selling drugs without prescription are liable to face legal action including suspension of their store licence.Deputy commissioner of police (headquarter) Deepali Dhate-Ghadge told TOI, “Substance abuse is turning out to be a menace. The officer assured that the identity of those helping the police would be kept confidential.An officer said, “Police are checking with legal experts if the pharmacists can be slapped with section 328 of the IPC (possessing, selling drugs harmful to human body). We cannot let this spread anymore,” he said.Prasad has even appealed to citizens to come forward with whatever information they have about the sale, supply and even consumption of drugs..
