Sena’s Gaikwad faces opposition, NCP toys with ticket to Patil kin

Aurangabad: The Shiv Sena leadership is in a fix over deciding the candidature for Osmanabad Lok Sabha seat owing to the opposition from a section of party workers to retain sitting MP Ravindra Gaikwad.On the other hand, the NCP, which had unsuccessfully fielded veteran leader Padmasinh Patil during last LS election, has also not declared its candidate. The saffron party was also considering the option of fielding the mother of Omraje Nimbalkar if the rival party goes ahead with the candidature of Archana Patil.Fifty-eight year old Gaikwad had made his debut in Lok Sabha by defeating Padmasinh Patil by a margin of over two lakh votes during the 2014 polls. The filing of nomination for the general election started from Tuesday.Patil’s son and sitting MLA of NCP from Osmanabad Rana Jagajit Singh and his daughter-in-law Archana Patil, who is the president of Zilla Parishad, are the top contenders for the nomination.Gaikwad was in the news for assaulting Air India staffer with chappal and initiating the country’s no flyer list. A section of party workers from Congress camp has been demanding re-entry of party veteran Shivraj Patil-Chakurkar into the active politics by contesting Lok Sabha polls from Osmanabad as the Parliamentary constituency in his home district Latur is reserved for the Schedule Caste category.In Aurangabad, NCP MLA Satish Chavan has been showing keen interest to fight Lok Sabha polls, but the seat is allotted to Congress in seat-sharing formula..
