Waqf officials played key role in four shady land deals, says CID

"The preliminary inquiry into the cases has revealed some waqf officials as well as 'muttawalis' (caretakers) played a vital role in the alleged misappropriation of prime properties. "He said the CID has found that the waqf authorities even avoided reporting the incidents wherein the prime properties changed hands. The sources said that the latest probe by the CID into the sale, transfer and change of title of prime waqf properties is limited to four properties in Aurangabad, Nashik, Panvel and Mumbai. The probe was launched about two months ago on the directive of the state government. The CID has drawn the conclusion on the basis of copies of the complaints, documents obtained under RTI and submitted along with complaints and the records obtained from the waqf board.Suradkar said, "Everything was done cleverly and we have found that desperate attempts have been made by the waqf to not leave any written evidence behind..
