Vehicles with Rs 5,000 tax default to be impounded

Bareilly: The Bareilly regional transport office (RTO) is set to launch a drive against those commercial vehicles the owners of which failed to pay road tax up to Rs 5,000.According to RTO officials, around 5,000 operators of commercial vehicles, including taxis, trucks, buses, etc, registered with the RTO have failed to pay tax. According to the Motor Vehicles Act, a fine of Rs 50 per day will be charged from the operators whose vehicles’ certificate has expired.Earlier, the RTO had appealed to the owners having more than 15-year-old vehicles plying on the city roads to get their vehicles re-registered. The defaulters need to pay tax along with a fine the tax, the press release stated.Besides, the RTO has also appealed to the owners whose vehicles’ fitness period has been expired to get their fitness certificates issued immediately. Since they failed to pay tax despite a warning, the RTO is now gearing up to impound their vehicles.”In a recently press release, authorities appealed to commercial vehicle operators registered with RTO to pay the pending tax at the earliest or face action. “The department is making a final appeal to the operators to pay their dues, failing which their vehicles will be impounded in accordance with the of MV Act,” they said.Speaking to TOI, assistant regional transport officer (ARTO), Bareilly, RP Singh said, “Of the 5,000 operators, RTO has issued warning to nearly 2,100 to pay their tax..
